How is the Free tier limited?
Free covers up to 50 notes with up to 8,000 characters each — plenty of room for daily journaling, todos, and reference notes. The markdown editor, tags, wiki-links, search, ⌘K palette, pin, trash, and export are all fully unlocked. AI features (live transcription, AI Transform, Recipes) are Premium-only.
Why no AI on Free?
Transcription and AI Transform call paid APIs (Whisper, LLMs) on every use — the usage cost scales per minute and per token, not per user. Unlimited AI on a free tier would be unsustainable for us and end in rate-limits and disappointment for you. Premium is €8/month (or €80/year, 2 months free) and covers the real cost, honestly.
Is sync across devices really free?
Yes. Sign in with Google (via Clerk) and your notes appear on every device you use Palimp on — no Premium required. Sync is part of the core product, not a paywall feature.
Where is my data stored?
Palimp is local-first — your notes live on your device first, and sync to our European Postgres (Neon) when you're signed in. Data is encrypted in transit. You can export everything as plain markdown at any time, on any tier.
Can Claude or other AI agents access my notes?
Only if you connect them. Palimp is one of the first notes apps with a native MCP server. You mint a per-device token from Settings, choose read or write scope, and connect Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, or any MCP client. Tokens are revocable; we never see your raw token.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel in one click from your account page and you keep Premium until the end of the current billing period. Your notes stay with you — we never hold data hostage.
Does it work offline?
The editor, search, tags, and backlinks all work fully offline. Transcription and AI Transform need a connection since they call hosted models; everything else keeps humming on a plane.
How is Palimp different from Obsidian or Reflect?
We share the markdown-and-backlinks DNA, but Palimp is opinionated about capture: live transcription, AI Transform, and Recipes are built in, not bolted on. No plugin rabbit-hole required.
